KATY JARZEBOWSKI is a composer scoring music for film and ballet. With a great enthusiasm for the bold and unexpected, her work balances dynamic orchestral writing with elements of sound design, electronics, and fearless instrumentations. She is happiest in the midst of collaboration, searching for new ways to score the dissonance, the glitch, the cheeky and charmingly irreverent.
Katy's music for the Emmy winning documentary THE FIRE THAT TOOK HER (MTV Docs) was nominated for a 2022 IDA Best Score Award, and in 2023, her score for BUBJAN won a Hollywood Music in Media Award. She has composed for numerous films, including the Emmy nominated IN THE DARK OF THE VALLEY (MSNBC Films) and the upcoming documentaries ALL ILLUSIONS MUST BE BROKEN, produced by Terrence Mallick, Robert Redford, and Nick Offerman, and ON THE LINE: THE RICHARD WILLIAMS STORY. Her score for Lara Gallagher’s CLEMENTINE, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, was released as a soundtrack by Infinite Companion in 2021. Katy's credits include the Jon Stewart-produced film AFTER SPRING (STARZ), as well as NOTHING IS TRUER THAN TRUTH, featuring Oscar-winner Mark Rylance, and the sci-fi sleeper hit, LIFE LIKE.
In 2021, Katy collaborated with choreographer Emily Adams on a new ballet called THE THING WITH FEATHERS, commissioned by Ballet West in Salt Lake City, in partnership with the Sundance Institute. Katy and Emily are still making weird things together to this day. Their next commission will premiere with the Richmond Ballet in 2024.
Katy graduated from Yale University and earned a Masters in Music at NYU, where she studied with Pulitzer Prize-winner Julia Wolfe. She was a composer fellow at the 2014 Sundance Music and Sound Design Lab at Skywalker Sound and selected for Berlinale Talents 2024. Katy is forever grateful to her parents for being unapologetically militant cinephiles and her grandparents for sharing their love of music.
